Schedule meeting the couple
Before you go ahead and start off with all of the preparations as well as plans for a wedding photography shoot, you need to make sure that you get everything right to begin with. Schedule a meeting with the bride and the groom before you do anything about it. You need to really know everything that there is to know about what they have in mind for the wedding photography service that you are more or less aiming to provide for them in the near future. This is the right place and time for you to lay out the entirety of your services to them in the most detailed and in the most transparent way possible.
Provide all important information
The couple needs to know how much your service costs, how many digital photos they will be getting, how many photos in print, how many hours you will be rendering, if there will be an engagement shoot included in the package, and so on and so forth. There should be no surprises whatsoever in between especially if it is something that will result to the clients ending up being on the shorter end of the stick at the end of the day. Another thing that you will need to discuss with your clients is what they would like to observe during the wedding such as any practices or traditions that they would like to uphold at some point or so. You have to remember that all throughout the entire wedding shoot, your role is basically to give life to the vision of your clients. You are but a skilled medium being used. Although you are allowed certain artistic liberties as the official expert in wedding photography, you should know where to draw the line. You should know where you stand amidst it all.
More importantly, you should know that your role is to follow what they would like to implement during the wedding photography shoot. You have the right to strongly suggest something especially if it is something that you passionately believe about but when it all comes down to it, the clients have the last say in all of it. It is their special day that is being filmed, after all. And more importantly, as crass as this may sound, they are the ones who are paying you.
You also need to make sure that you do not miss out on any important moments during the wedding photography shoot.
This is something that the bride will not be all too forgiving about. Write up some sort of sequence for the wedding photography shoot itinerary. Create the list of important moments ahead of time and try to keep the bride and the groom in the loop as much as possible. The bride is the best person for you to get in touch with because she usually knows about anything and everything that has to do about the wedding. Get out of your way to really stick to the list as much as possible. This is something that will help keep you in check. You might segue every now and then but for as long as you have the list with you, you will always get back on track.
